Voicemail upgrade notice

We are making some changes to voicemail to make it an even better service.

The voicemail system upgrade will take place between 6th September – 15th September. Please do not change your voicemail PIN, or personal greeting during this time. These dates have been updated from 22nd August - 2nd September.

Important security notice: After your voicemail upgrade, if your PIN is longer than 8 digits, you will be prompted to change it as soon as you dial 171.

To update your PIN, please follow these steps.

  1. Call 171 from your Three phone
  2. Press three for settings in the main menu
  3. Press one in the settings menu to set a new PIN

Make sure it is something easy for you to remember, but difficult for anyone else to guess. Numbers cannot be all the same digit e.g. 1111, 2222, or be made up of sequential numbers eg1234.

We know that saved voicemails are important. If there are any voicemail messages that you want to keep we recommend you transfer these to a voice note or save to a new device. You can find out how to save your voicemails after the Voicemail upgrade with our guide here .

Changes to your voicemail

  1. Collecting your messages: +353 83 3333 171 will no longer be available after 13th\ October and messages can’t be forwarded to this number. To collect your voicemail messages from another number dial your number with the digit 5 after your prefix, press * and enter your PIN number.

    If your number is 083 1234567 you would dial 083 51234567. If you are abroad, enter the country code before at the start of your number: 083 124567 becomes 353 83 5 1234567.
  2. Dual experience: For three weeks after the voicemail upgrade, there will be a new option to your Voicemail Main Menu. This menu plays at the end of your messages. You then have options like change personal Greetings or PIN number, etc.

    The Star key *, found under the number 7, is a shortcut that will get you to the main menu. You now can press 5 to skip the menu and to get to your old messages. If you have no new messages use the new option 5 to get to your older Voicemail messages.

    Note: For security purposes, you will need to enter your number and old PIN to access your old voicemail Menu. If you do not remember your PIN Press *6 and you will receive a PIN via a text message. You can use this text Message PIN to access to your old voicemail Menu.
  3. Date and timings message: the date and time of your message will now play after you listen to your message.
  4. Voicemail notification changes: will now contain a direct link to listen to the message you have received. The notification will show:
    • the name of the caller if their details are stored on your phone
    • the number there are no details for the call
    • from a number with no caller ID will show as +353 (83) 333 3171

    • You can still access your voicemail at any time by dialling 171

  5. Message Retention: As Standard, messages that are not listened to will only be saved for 2 weeks before being deleted. Listened to messages will save for 7 days with the option of saving the message each time you listen to it that will save it for a further 7 days.
  6. Listening to a message: Your newly upgraded voicemail has some new options after the message is played
    • Pressing 3 after your voicemail changes will skip a message
    • Pressing 2 will replay your message
    • Pressing 4 will save the message
  7. Distribution List: The distribution list option will no longer be available after this upgrade.
  8. Greetings: previously you had two options available for your greeting which were standard response and personalised response. A new option is now available which is a combination of both.
  9. New PIN policy: the types of PIN you can use to access your voicemail are changing, if your PIN is longer than 8 digits, you will be prompted to change it as soon as you dial 171.

How to listen to voicemail

  1. Dial 171 from your Three phone or click the link in the notification text
  2. Press one in the main menu to hear your messages
  3. While listening to your message you will have the following options:
    • 1 to return the call (Bill Pay only)
    • 2 to replay the message
    • 3 to skip
    • 4 to save
    • 5 to delete
    • 6 for the caller’s number
    • The next message will play after the current message is finished

How to change personal greeting/PIN

  1. Call 171 from your phone
  2. Press 2 for greetings in the main menu
  3. In the greetings menu, press:
    • 1 to record a personal greeting
    • 2 to set a standard greeting
    • 3 to set a standard greeting with your name
    • 4 to return to the main menu
  4. To change your PIN dial 171 from your phone
    • Press 3 to change your PIN and then press 1

How to reset your PIN

Your PIN can be reset at any time using the Change PIN steps above. If you forget your PIN, a new one will be texted to your mobile by entering it incorrectly three times.
