Closure of Three.ie Email Relay System

The three.ie email SMTP relay system for outbound emails will no longer be available from 17th June 2019.

If you think you may be using this relay system, you should check that your email provider has this function set up to prevent disruption to your emails.

Frequently asked questions

We emailed all potential Three.ie relay system users to notify them that we’re switching off the outgoing email server. You must update your outgoing email server settings on your device to ensure uninterrupted service.

You’ll be affected if your outgoing mail server address in your device settings is one of the following:

  • smtp.o2.ie
  • mail-relay.3ireland.ie

This guide will help you change the email settings that control how your emails are sent (your outgoing email) so you can continue to send them as before.

The Three outbound mail relay allows customers to send email from their device’s email client.

If you haven’t changed your settings to an external mail relay provider by 17th June 2019 you won’t be able to send emails. Your email service provider will offer a mail relay service.

Users will be notified by email when using the service between 1st May – 17th June 2019.

No, you won’t be able to send emails if you don’t have an active relay system in place.
